We celebrate today the Darwin’s day, to honor the birth of Charles Darwin in 02/12/1809.
Darwin er en viktig skikkelse i vitenskapens historie. Han revolusjonerte vår forståelse av naturen og menneskets opprinnelse. Han bidro til å bevise evolusjonsteorien mot transmutasjonsteorien ved hjelp av eksempler fra zoologi, botanikk og geologi.
The Royal Society in 1839 recognised his contribution as a naturalist & for being ‘well acquainted with geology, botany, zoology & many other branches of natural knowledge.
As a pioneering naturalist, his groundbreaking 1859 work ‘On the Origin of Species’ had a profound influence on scientific thought in the 19th century and beyond.

Livets tre
Darwin brukte begrepet livstre i forbindelse med evolusjonsteorien sin. I Artenes opprinnelse (1859), kapittel IV, presenterte han et abstrakt diagram av et teoretisk livstre for arter i en ikke navngitt stor slekt.
