Alfred Nobel dreamed of a better world. He believed that through education, science, and humanism, people might contribute to transforming society. This is why he created an award to honor the discoveries that have contributed the most to humanity.

Since 1901, the Nobel Prize in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, peace and lastly, economics, has been awarded 609 times to 975 individuals and organizations.

In each of the six categories, the 2022 Nobel Prize was awarded to those who provided the greatest benefit to humankind. Discover the awardees of the 2022 Nobel Prize.

Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger

The Nobel Prize in Physics for 2022 has been awarded to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger. The award was given to the trio “for their experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell’s inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”.

The three awardees worked to carry out important experiments that established the quantum property of entanglement. This is a one-of-a-kind phenomenon in which two or more particles have significantly stronger interactions than conventional physics allows. Entanglement is crucial in quantum computers, which have the potential to outperform traditional computers in certain situations.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 has been given to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, K. Barry Sharpless, and Morten Meldal.

K. Barry Sharpless and Morten Meldal have set the groundwork for click chemistry, a functional kind of chemistry in which molecular building blocks snap together rapidly and effectively. Carolyn Bertozzi has taken click chemistry to a new level by incorporating it into live beings.

K. Barry Sharpless, who is 81, receives his second Nobel Prize in chemistry, having previously won the prize in 2001.

Svante Pääbo

Svante Pääbo was given the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Pääbo is a Swedish scientist who delved into human history by extracting genetic material from 40,000-year-old bones, resulting in the production of a full Neanderthal genome, an extinct relative of humans, and beginning the area of ancient DNA research.

Annie Ernaux

Annie Ernaux, who has produced over 20 books since the 1970s, won the Literature Nobel Prize. She is only the 17th woman to get the award.

Ernaux’s writing has addressed women and individuals who, like her, come from a working class that is rarely portrayed with such clarity in literature: she has described her childhood in a small Normandy town, an illegal abortion she had in the 1960s, her discontentment with domestic life, and a passionate extramarital affair.
