A simplified pathological illustration depicts a tricuspid semilunar cardiac valve with fibrocalcific degeneration. The three valve leaflets within the heart (cardiac valve within the cardiovascular system) appear thickened and stiff, with pale nodules representing dystrophic calcification and fibrous scarring. In anatomy and cardiovascular pathology, this anatomical structure normally permits unidirectional blood flow from a ventricle into the arterial outflow tract, but such degenerative changes reduce leaflet mobility and can lead to valve stenosis and impaired hemodynamics.
