An anatomical illustration of posterior thoracic vertebrae with an adjoining rib and the fan‑shaped superior costotransverse ligament, highlighting the thoracic paravertebral space (TPVS). This wedge‑shaped compartment lies lateral to the vertebral body and intervertebral foramen, adjacent to the costotransverse joint. In human anatomy and regional anesthesia, the TPVS provides a pathway for thoracic spinal nerves and is the target for the thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB) to produce unilateral somatic and sympathetic analgesia in Homo sapiens (human).
