An anatomical illustration of a third-degree (full-thickness) burn (FTB) of human skin, depicting complete loss of the epidermis and dermis with exposure of lobulated subcutaneous adipose tissue. The wound shows retracted margins and a denuded, leathery surface consistent with coagulative necrosis. Within the integumentary system hierarchy, this is cutaneous tissue overlying subcutis. In dermatology and burn pathology, such injuries abolish barrier function, impair thermoregulation and sensation, and often require surgical debridement and grafting in Homo sapiens (human).
