A schematic of the distal lower limb shows clusters of superficial, dilated dermal capillaries and venules forming spider-like telangiectases on the calf. In dermatology and vascular anatomy, this lesion represents ectasia of small blood vessels within the skin (integumentary tissue) of the leg, a component of the systemic circulation. The illustration pertains to Homo sapiens (human). Functionally, these microvessels enable cutaneous perfusion, but pathologic dilation produces visible, fine red-to-violet lines without palpable nodularity.
