A low, horizontally extensive cloud layer is shown as a thin, uniform gray sheet with smooth, diffuse edges against a dark background. This atmospheric phenomenon is composed of microscopic water droplets within a stratiform layer in the lower troposphere, representing droplets (microphysical scale) nested within a cloud deck (mesoscale). In meteorology and cloud microphysics, such layers signal stable air and can yield widespread overcast, muted solar radiation, and occasional light drizzle near the planetary boundary layer.
