Splenomegaly: The illustration shows an enlarged spleen highlighted within a human torso. The spleen, an organ of the lymphatic and hematologic systems, lies in the left upper quadrant (LUQ) of the abdomen beneath the diaphragm. In anatomy, physiology, and pathology, it is responsible for immune surveillance, filtration of aged red blood cells (RBCs), and platelet sequestration.
