A histologic micrograph of spleen tissue at approximately 100× magnification highlights lymphoid architecture. A dense lymphoid nodule of white pulp (WP) surrounds a pale central arteriole with a periarteriolar lymphoid sheath (PALS), while paler red pulp (RP) occupies the periphery. In the biological hierarchy, this is organ-derived lymphoid tissue within the lymphatic system. In histology and immunology, the spleen filters blood and mounts immune responses, removing aged erythrocytes. Anatomically, it resides in the left upper abdominal quadrant.
