Smooth muscle fiber. The illustration shows a spindle-shaped cell with tapered ends and a single central nucleus, representing a smooth muscle cell (SMC) within smooth muscle tissue. In histology and physiology, this visceral myocyte generates involuntary contraction to regulate peristalsis, vasoconstriction, and organ tone.
