A stylized depiction of a miracidium, the ciliated larval stage of blood flukes in the genus Schistosoma (S.), showing an elongated, ovoid body with surface cilia and internal germinal cells. In biological hierarchy, it is a larval organism within the life cycle of a trematode (phylum Platyhelminthes) that later develops inside a snail. In parasitology and microbiology, this stage uses ciliary motility to swim in freshwater and locate the intermediate host, enabling infection and subsequent development into sporocysts.
