In cytogenetics and clinical genetics, this structural rearrangement is described as a ring chromosome (r). Hierarchically, the chromosome is a DNAprotein complex within the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. Formation of a ring can delete distal loci and predispose to mitotic instability and mosaicism.
