A schematic fundus view shows the neurosensory retina with branching retinal vessels. The pale circular optic disc, or optic nerve head (ONH), gives rise to the central retinal artery (CRA) and central retinal vein (CRV), while the darker macula lutea contains the fovea centralis for high-acuity vision. As an anatomical tissue within the posterior segment of the eye, the retina enables phototransduction and central visual processing, relevant to ophthalmic anatomy and physiology.
