A simplified illustration of a reticulocyte, an immature erythrocyte (red blood cell, RBC) cell type within the blood tissue of the circulatory system. In hematology and cell biology, reticulocytes represent the developmental stage between normoblasts and mature erythrocytes, retaining residual ribosomal RNA (rRNA) that supports final hemoglobin (Hb) synthesis.
