A multi-lumen intravascular device with an inflatable balloon at the distal tip and multiple color-coded proximal ports is illustrated. This pulmonary artery catheter (PAC), also known as a Swan–Ganz catheter (SGC), is used in cardiology and critical care physiology to monitor hemodynamics. Inserted via a central vein into the right atrium and right ventricle, it advances to the pulmonary artery within the cardiovascular system. It measures pulmonary artery pressure (PAP), pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), cardiac output (CO) by thermodilution, and mixed venous oxygen saturation (SvO2).
