The organ of the endocrine system comprises the anterior lobe (adenohypophysis) and posterior lobe (neurohypophysis), linked to the hypothalamus within the hypothalamic–pituitary axis (HPA). Fenestrated capillaries and hypophyseal portal veins deliver hypothalamic releasing hormones to the anterior lobe, while arteries and venous drainage serve the posterior lobe. Located in the sella turcica at the base of the brain, the gland secretes trophic hormones and releases ADH (antidiuretic hormone) and OXT (oxytocin).
