Pig heart. A simplified anatomical illustration depicts the porcine heart with anterior ventricles, superior atrial appendages, and emergent great vessels. In the biological hierarchy, it is an organ within the cardiovascular system located in the thoracic cavity (mediastinum) of Sus scrofa domesticus (domestic pig). In veterinary anatomy and cardiovascular physiology, the heart pumps blood for systemic and pulmonary circulation, with the aorta (Ao), pulmonary artery (PA), and venae cavae (VC) shown, while surface coronary arteries (CA) perfuse the myocardium; principal chambers include the left ventricle (LV), right ventricle (RV), left atrium (LA), and right atrium (RA).
