A lateral schematic of the human knee shows the patella articulating with the distal femur, with prosthetic resurfacing components indicating patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA). The device, a partial knee replacement, replaces the articular surfaces of the patella and femoral trochlea within the patellofemoral joint (PFJ) of the anterior knee. In the anatomical hierarchy, the PFJ is a compartment of the knee joint of the lower limb skeleton in Homo sapiens, used in orthopedic surgery to relieve isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis and restore tracking.
