In biological hierarchy, it is a sensory receptor organ embedded within skin tissue of the integumentary system, typically in the dermis or hypodermis. In anatomy, histology, and neurophysiology, the PC transduces deep pressure and high‑frequency vibration into neural impulses, with the axon myelinated proximally and unmyelinated within the capsule.
