A schematic shows polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) moving along vascular endothelium within a blood vessel and undergoing transendothelial migration (TEM, diapedesis). Rounded PMNs roll and adhere to endothelial cells, flatten, and squeeze between junctions to exit the lumen toward extravascular tissue. The hierarchy depicted is immune cells interacting with endothelial tissue of the circulatory system.
