A stylized eukaryotic cell in early mitosis shows condensed chromosomes inside an intact nucleus while the mitotic spindle begins to assemble. Within the cellular hierarchy, chromosomes containing DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) reside in the nucleus, and MTs (microtubules) extend from the centrosomal MTOCs (microtubule-organizing centers) in the cytoplasm.
