Amphipathic PL molecules show polar head groups (dark circles) oriented to the aqueous interface and hydrophobic acyl chains (wavy tails) directed toward the core, forming a supramolecular assembly. In biochemistry, biophysics, and biomedical imaging, such MBs function as ultrasound contrast agents by enhancing acoustic backscatter at the gas–liquid interface.
