A simplified schematic depicts a membrane-bound enzyme shown as an integral membrane protein (IMP) with a single transmembrane domain (TMD) embedded in the lipid bilayer of the plasma membrane (PM). The globular ectodomain represents the catalytic site oriented to one side of the membrane, with a short cytosolic tail on the opposite side.
