The cell shows dendritic processes containing melanosomes (yellow granules), a central nucleus, mitochondria, and Golgi apparatus. In dermatology and cell biology, melanocytes synthesize melanin via tyrosinase and transfer melanosomes to adjacent keratinocytes, enabling cutaneous pigmentation and photoprotection. This organ-specific cell type mitigates UV (ultraviolet) damage by dispersing pigment across the epidermal tissue.
