A schematic depicts an erythrocyte packed with multiple oval merozoites, representing the schizont stage of Plasmodium. The parasite (microbiology/parasitology) proliferates asexually within a red blood cell (RBC; erythrocyte) in peripheral blood, forming a multinucleate schizont that later ruptures to release invasive merozoites.
