A stylized schematic shows a spherical parasite cyst packed with curved, crescent-like cells, representing a malaria oocyst filled with sporozoites. At the hierarchical level, individual sporozoites (SPZ) reside within the oocyst, which develops on the midgut wall of an Anopheles mosquito, the arthropod vector. In parasitology and microbiology, this developmental stage of Plasmodium spp. (malaria parasites) produces SPZ that subsequently migrate to the mosquito salivary glands, enabling transmission to vertebrate hosts during blood feeding.
