A schematic depiction of an immature lymphoid precursor cell with a large round profile and a thin rim of cytoplasm. In the biological hierarchy, it is a progenitor cell within hematopoietic tissue that differentiates into B and T lymphocytes. Relevant to hematology, histology, immunology, and pathology, it resides primarily in the bone marrow (BM) and lymphoid organs. Functionally, it proliferates and differentiates; pathologically, increased blasts characterize acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
