A human heart cross-section shows pathological enlargement of the left ventricle (LV). The LV chamber, a cardiac chamber within the heart organ of the cardiovascular system, appears dilated with a thinned myocardium, consistent with left ventricular dilatation (LVD), while the right ventricle (RV) and left atrium (LA) are comparatively smaller. In anatomy, cardiology, and pathology, the LV’s role is to pump oxygenated blood into the aorta for systemic circulation. The site is the thoracic mediastinum of Homo sapiens (human).
