Graphite nanotechnology. This schematic depicts the hexagonal honeycomb lattice characteristic of graphene within graphite. At the hierarchical level, individual C (carbon) atoms form sp2 covalent bonds to create a two-dimensional (2D) graphene sheet, which stacks into layered graphite. In materials science, solid-state chemistry, and nanotechnology, this crystal lattice (an allotrope of carbon) underlies high in-plane electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and electron mobility, supporting applications in nanoelectronics, composites, and energy storage.
