In this chemical engineering and mineral processing unit operation, injected air generates bubbles in a solid–gas–liquid (S–G–L) multiphase system; hydrophobic particles attach to bubbles and rise to a froth layer that exits via an overflow outlet, while hydrophilic gangue remains in the pulp.
