A schematic depicts fibronectin (FN) in an extended, unfolded conformation. This extracellular matrix (ECM) glycoprotein—at the molecule level within the connective tissue matrix—mediates cell adhesion by binding integrins and other matrix components and promotes fibrillogenesis during wound repair.
