Stylized depiction of a spindle-shaped mesenchymal cell with elongated processes and a central purple nucleus. As a cell type within connective tissue (tissue level), it is studied in histology and cell biology. It synthesizes extracellular matrix (ECM) components, including collagen and proteoglycans, and proliferates during wound repair and fibrosis.
