In cell biology and biochemistry, this molecule mediates integrin-dependent signal transduction, coordinating adhesion, mechanotransduction, cell migration, and survival pathways. Hierarchically, it is a protein component embedded in the macromolecular focal adhesion that links the plasma membrane to the actin cytoskeleton. The site is the cytoplasmic face of focal adhesions at the cell–extracellular matrix interface.
