The tubular body shows numerous ostia in the body wall leading to a central spongocoel, with a terminal osculum. At a finer hierarchy, the siliceous skeleton is formed by fused spicules of SiO2 (silicon dioxide). In marine biology and anatomy, this organism functions as a benthic filter feeder, driving water flow to capture suspended microorganisms in the deep sea.
