In the biological hierarchy, this temporary endocrine structure resides in ovarian tissue of the female reproductive system. In reproductive physiology and endocrinology, the CL secretes progesterone (P4) and estradiol (E2) to maintain the endometrium; during regression it loses function and fibroses toward the corpus albicans, causing declining steroidogenesis. Type: transient gland/anatomical structure located in the ovarian cortex.
