This protein domain forms part of the light chain within an Ig (immunoglobulin) molecule, an antibody of the adaptive immune system. In structural biology and immunology, C_L stabilizes the variable light domain (V_L) and pairs with the heavy-chain C_H1 to build the Fab (fragment antigen-binding) region, supporting antigen recognition. Functionally, it contributes to folding and assembly in secreted antibodies and the B-cell receptor (BCR).
