A simplified 3D schematic of a centriole, a cylindrical microtubule-based organelle forming part of the centrosome (MTOC, microtubule-organizing center) in animal cell cytoplasm. The cylinder displays nine radially arranged microtubule triplets (9x3, 9+0 pattern) surrounding a hollow core. In cell biology and ultrastructural anatomy, centrioles nucleate and organize microtubules, enabling mitotic spindle formation and templating basal bodies for cilia and flagella.
