A schematic of a eukaryotic cell in metaphase of mitosis shows replicated chromosomes aligned at the equatorial metaphase plate, each composed of paired sister chromatids of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Green MTs (microtubules) form a bipolar mitotic spindle that emanates from centrosomes, the MTOCs (microtubule-organizing centers) at opposite poles, organizing astral arrays.
