Brain with fornix. This simplified deep cerebral illustration highlights the C-shaped fornix arching beneath the corpus callosum within the limbic system. In neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, the fornix is a white matter projection tract in the cerebrum of the central nervous system (CNS) that carries hippocampal efferents to the mammillary bodies and septal nuclei. Situated deep to the corpus callosum and superior to the thalamus, it contributes to declarative memory processing via the Papez circuit.
