This schematic depicts the release phase of a bdelloplast, in which multiple flagellated Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus (B. bacteriovorus) progeny emerge from the rounded, lysed envelope of a Gram-negative prey bacterium. Curved rod-shaped predators mature intraperiplasmically inside the host cell and exit through a rupture in the prey cell envelope.
