This glial cell (type: neuroglia) resides within the central nervous system (CNS) parenchyma, forming part of the neurovascular unit. In neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, astrocyte endfeet regulate extracellular K+, recycle neurotransmitters, mediate metabolic support, and reinforce the blood–brain barrier (BBB) via perivascular ensheathment. Hierarchically, it is a single cell within neural tissue of the brain or spinal cord.
