A simplified botanical illustration shows a pollen tube (PT), a tip-growing haploid cell of the male gametophyte in angiosperms (Magnoliophyta). The elongated tube advances from the stigma through the style toward the ovary within the pistil, with two non-motile sperm cells (SCs) positioned near the apex. In hierarchical terms, this is a gametophytic cell functioning within floral reproductive tissues. In plant anatomy and reproductive physiology, the PT enables double fertilization by transporting gametes to the ovule to produce the zygote and endosperm.
