The organism, Amblyomma americanum (A. americanum; lone star tick), is an arachnid ectoparasite studied in acarology, entomology, and vector biology. Functionally, this hematophagous arthropod feeds on vertebrate skin and blood and can transmit pathogens to mammals, including Homo sapiens.
