Amacrine retina: Stylized illustration of an amacrine cell with a central soma and radiating neurites. In neuroanatomy and ophthalmology, this interneuron is a retinal cell within neural tissue of the eye, positioned with its cell body in the inner nuclear layer (INL) and processes ramifying in the inner plexiform layer (IPL). The cell modulates synaptic transmission from bipolar cells to retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), enabling temporal processing and lateral inhibition in visual pathways.
