A stylized histology view shows white adipose tissue (WAT) composed of clusters of unilocular adipocytes, each with a large lipid droplet displacing the nucleus to the cell periphery. The cells (adipocytes) constitute connective tissue within an adipose depot and are interlaced with small blood vessels and stromal vascular elements. In anatomy, physiology, and endocrinology, WAT stores triacylglycerol (TAG) and secretes hormones such as leptin (LEP), thereby supporting energy homeostasis and metabolic regulation.
