A schematic illustrates an aortic dissection (AD) confined to and extending along the descending aorta. The dissection originates distal to the left subclavian artery in the descending thoracic aorta and continues beyond the diaphragm into the abdominal aorta, consistent with DeBakey type IIIb. Depicting an elastic artery within the cardiovascular system of Homo sapiens (human), it shows separation between the intima and media creating a false lumen. In anatomy and pathology, this condition can impair systemic perfusion and threaten flow to visceral branch vessels.
