Thoracic aortic aneurysm. A simplified anatomical illustration of the aorta shows an aneurysmal bulge on the thoracic segment near the aortic arch. The structure depicted is a large elastic artery within the cardiovascular system, studied in anatomy and cardiovascular pathology. As an organ-level conduit, the aorta carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to systemic circulation. The lesion represents localized dilation (TAA, thoracic aortic aneurysm) in the intrathoracic aorta, predisposing to dissection or rupture.
