A high‑magnification, labeled histology schematic depicts the microanatomy of the spleen. The organ, a secondary lymphoid structure in the lymphatic system, shows hierarchical organization of tissues: WP (white pulp) with PALS (periarteriolar lymphoid sheath) and Ly (lymphocytes) surrounding the CA (central arteriole), and RP (red pulp) with S (sinusoids) and PC (penicillar capillaries) adjacent to BV (blood vessel), encased by the Ca (capsule). In anatomy, histology, and immunology, these structures mediate blood filtration, immune surveillance, and antigen presentation within a single lymphoid organ.
