This unicellular protozoan parasite represents a cell-level entity within the parasite’s life cycle hierarchy from cyst to trophozoite. In parasitology and medical microbiology, the process occurs in the host gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Functionally, the cyst stage enables environmental survival and fecal–oral transmission, while excystation produces motile trophozoites that colonize intestinal tissues and can initiate invasive disease in susceptible hosts.
