At the structural hierarchy, chains of conidia (asexual spores) arise from phialides that encircle a terminal vesicle, all borne on an erect conidiophore extending from an aerial hypha within the mycelium. In microbiology, mycology, and pathology, this eukaryotic microorganism functions as a saprophyte producing abundant airborne conidia for dispersal and is also an opportunistic pathogen causing aspergillosis in Homo sapiens (human). The site depicted is the conidial head at the tip of the conidiophore.
